Unfortunately, there are times when individuals or businesses distort the goals of competition to gain undue or unfair advantage over others. This type of conduct can take the form of illegally-maintained monopolies, price fixing, the exchange of competitive information, patent abuse, and other forms of unfair competition.
Hausfeld in London is a leader in the fight against these types of wrongdoing in Europe
Successes
- Air Passenger: We successfully negotiated a settlement with BA and Virgin for UK claimants arising from BA/Virgin's illegal price fixing of fuel surcharges.
- Air Cargo: We are acting for a large number of corporates in pursuing actions in London against BA on a joint and several basis for losses arising out of the 6 year global air cargo cartel. This action complements a similar action being brought in New York.
- Marine Hose: We successfully negotiated a settlement in the marine hose cartel with one of the cartelists, Parker, which allows businesses outside Europe to make claims against a dedicated fund.
- Cartel Key: We have successfully developed an insurance/ funding methodology to bring cartel claims that allows them to be brought on a virtually no risk/ no costs basis
- Our lawyers regularly speak on competition litigation issues throughout Europe.
- Michael Hausfeld was the only US plaintiff's lawyer expressly invited by the European Commission's DG Competition to comment on its EC Antitrust Damages Actions Green Paper of March 28, 2006 and he responded to the OFT?s White Paper on private damages actions for competition law infringement.
