The firm acts for businsses, big and small, and individuals, either by themselves or collectively, in financial services matters. The firm has acted and has no conflict in acting, unlike almost all other UK law firms, against banks.
Both Anthony Maton and Ingrid Gubbay have significant experience in financial services claims. Anthony has worked in connection with most of the city scandals of the last 15 years, from BCCI, through Barings, the Co-op and recently AIG. Ingrid Gubbay has practiced both in Australia and the UK, successfully bringing high profile actions, including, on behalf of thousands of borrowers who paid unfair charges on consumer credit agreements, and policyholders whose flood claims were rejected on the basis of unfair terms in insurance policies. She currently acts with Anthony Maton in a matter involving allegations against major lenders that they misrepresented certain high risk products to investors. Among other senior roles, Ingrid has also been a consultant to the UK Financial Services Authority with respect to the scope of the Financial Services and Markets Act (FSMA) in consumer projects, and a member of the consumer panel of the Australian Securities Investment Commission (ASIC).
The firm is currently instructed by individuals on a number of financial services matters which are yet to reach the Courts.
